Contributions and limits of pancreatectomy in hyperinsulinism

Introduction: Faced with persistent hyperinsulinism, the practitioner is mainly confronted with problems of therapeutic management aimed at stabilising blood sugar levels and avoiding neurological sequelae. Surgery has its place in forms resistant to medical and dietary treatment. Objective: To illustrate the therapeutic difficulties in hyperinsulinism by focusing on the contribution and limitations of pancreatectomy. Methods: Retrospective study carried out in the pediatric department of La Rabta, between 2010 and 2017. Among 40 cases of hyperinsulinism, 3 patients who underwent pancreatectomy were studied. Conclusion: Surgical treatment is a radical solution for hyperinsulinism resistant to medical and nutritional treatment.Downloads
