Introduction: Hypernatremic dehydration due to breastfeeding is a serious condition with an increasing incidence. The aim of our study is to determine its frequency and clinical, biological, and outcome characteristics. Patients and Methods: This is a descriptive and retrospective study conducted over a 2-year period from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023, including all newborns hospitalized for hypernatremic dehydration related to breastfeeding. Results: We collected 11 cases, accounting for 0.7% of admissions. The mean age at admission was 2.8 days, with a male-to-female ratio of 0.83. All newborns were exclusively breastfed. Hypernatremia was present in all newborns with an average sodium level of 150.36 mmol/L. All cases showed a favorable outcome. Conclusion: Hypernatremic dehydration related to breastfeeding is a serious condition. Prevention of these complications is essential through parental education.Downloads
