Pediatric medical transport in Burkina Faso: case of Tougan sanitary district

Introduction: Pediatric transport is an unresolved issue in our working context opposite to wealthy countries. We aim to study the conditions of pediatric transport at Tougan sanitary district. Method: quantitative study with prospective data collection from January to March 2019. Results: Data collection was about 217 cases of pediatric assessments. The mean age of the patients was 34.2±27.6 months. Patients were evacuated for advanced care (74.19%) and the means used to achieve referral facility was the motorcycle (93.54%). No patient was accompanied by a health worker and the median of the trip was 2 hours and 15 minutes. 7% of the patients died in the PCU. Conclusion: The conditions under which children seriously ill are transported do not meet safety and quality standard.Downloads
