Tracheobronchial foreign bodies in the pediatric population

Abstract

Introduction: Foreign body (FB) inhalation represents a serious public health problem. Results: 172 cases of FB inhalation were included. The mean age was 2 years 8 months. The sex ratio was 2.12. Penetration syndrome was present in 97.7% of cases. Rigid bronchoscopy was performed in all cases. Organic FB were the most frequent (91.5%) dominated by peanuts. The outcome was favorable in 93.6% of cases. Conclusion: Inhalation of FB is a frequent and serious accident in children, hence the major interest of prevention by educating parents and raising awareness of medical information and public authorities.
