Pediatric hospitalization: Parental satisfaction survey

Introduction: To improve their services, hospitals must not only consult the experts' opinions but also assess the satisfaction of the patient-client. The aim of our work was to assess the overall and specific satisfaction rates of parents of children hospitalized in a Tunisian pediatrics department and to identify the affecting factors. Methods: Cross-sectional study via a satisfaction questionnaire to parents of outgoing children from the Department A of the Children's Hospital of Tunis over a period of four months. Results: A sample of 200 parents was included. The average age was 37.6 ±7.6 years. The overall satisfaction score was 71.7%±21.06%. Waiting times were considered short in 82% of cases. The parents were satisfied with the hospital reception (66%), the architectural organization of the department (72%), hygiene and cleanliness (75%). They were less satisfied with the provided meals (50%) and the nursing (57%). They found satisfactory the medical (74%) and paramedical care (65%) as well as the communication (65%), the respect for the dignity of the child (66%) and treatment costs (60%). In bivariate analysis, mothers were more satisfied than fathers with the answers provided by doctors (p=0.01) and childcare workers (p=0.04), with communication (p=0.018) and with respect the dignity of the child (p=0.009). Conclusion: Parents of our patients are satisfied in nearly three quarters of cases. We recommend the standardization of surveys on a national scale.Downloads
