Abstract

Context: Attention to mothers and newborns during the first weeks after delivery is crucial. Methodology: Cross-sectional study of mothers received in six vaccination centers between the 6th week and 12th month after delivery. Results: Out of 1056 mothers surveyed, only 17.0% had attended at least one postnatal consultation. Low attendance was influenced by lack of awareness (p=0.000). Mothers were more inclined to attend when they had personal transport (P=0.003) or used public transport (P=0.008). Conclusion: A social mobilization system and improvement of routine health services are needed.
