Since the first descriptions over 40 years ago, the epidemiology and pathophysiology of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) have evolved. Its prevalence in Tunisia is not well known. We conducted a single-center, descriptive correlational study, over a three-year period, among extremely premature infants hospitalized for respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). The number of newborns meeting the inclusion criteria was 206. Of these 142 survived more than 28 days, 18 of which could be diagnosed as suffering from BPD. The prevalence of BPD among very premature infants admitted for RDS was 8.73%. It was 12.7% among survivors.Downloads
