Abstract

Introduction: Asthma is a very frequent pathology burdened with a heavy morbidity. Its management is multidisciplinary. One of its most important pillars is good therapeutic adherence. Objective: To determine the state of control in asthmatic children and their level of compliance as well as the risk factors for poor therapeutic adherence. Material and method: Descriptive prospective study over 4 months (January, February 2020 and May, June 2020) including children aged between 1 month and 15 years hospitalized and/or followed at the pediatric ward. Results: 82 cases, mean age 66.6 months, sex ratio 2.72. Poor therapeutic adherence was objectified in 53.7% of cases. Main faults were non-attendance of treatment (50%), absence of use of inhalation chamber for children under 6 years (26.3%) and errors in device handling (24.4%). Conclusion: Studying asthma control and risk factors for poor compliance reveals failings on several levels and prompts updates to therapeutic education strategies.
