Children's acute poisoning with hydrocarbons : About 26 Cases (Dakar/Senegal)

Abstract

Acute poisoning with hydrocarbons occupies an important place in the various intoxications due to their permanent domestic use and their conditions of conservation. These intoxications are a real public health problem. We collected 26 patient files, a prevalence of 0.8%. Oil was the most incriminated product (61.5%). The most represented age group was 2 to 3 years old (53.8%). The sex ratio was 4.3. The intoxications were accidental in 100% and occurred at home. The duration of hospitalization was often less than 5 days with a good evolution in 69.2% of the cases however 4 children (15.5%) had presented an inhalation pneumopathy.
