Objective: Study the risk factors for respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in preterm infants born before 33 weeks of amenorrhea and evaluate the short-term prognosis. Results: Of the 371 premature infants, 119 had RDS (32%). Prenatal corticosteroid therapy and premature rupture of membranes had a protective role. The mortality rate was 31.1% in the RDS group versus 23.5% in the group without RDS. Conclusion: Technological advances have improved the survival rate but the prognosis is still severe in premature infants born before 28 weeks of amenorrhea.Downloads
