Tay Sachs disease is a rare disorder with poor prognosis. We report an 18-month-old infant presenting a progressive developmental regression. The increased startle response to sharp sounds and the red cherry spot in the funduscopic examination of the retina oriented the diagnosis to the Tay Sachs disease. The diagnosis was confirmed by a near complete deficiency of hexosaminidase A activity. The infant deceased at the age of 4 years. Prenatal diagnosis was performed in two later pregnancies.Downloads
