Congenital heart disease in pediatric department : circumstance of discovery and management

Introduction : Congenital heart disease (CHD) occurs in 6,8‰ live births and still have a high mortality level of 23% in Tunisia. The aim of this study was to review the circumstance of discovery and management of CHD's patients in a general pediatrics department. Methods : Retrospective and transversal study was performed. We included 32 patients with CHD diagnosed in the pediatric department B of Bechir Hamza's Hospital between january 2013 and december 2016. Results : Fifteen patients were male (46,5%). Consanguinity was noted in six cases (18,6%). Antenatal diagnosis was done in two cases (6,2%). Seven patients died in the pediatric department. Conclusion : CHD is a public health problem in Tunisia. Delay to antenatal and post natal diagnosis added to heart surgery inability for several CHD lead to a preoccupent concern.Downloads
