Neurogenic bladder in children with spina bifida: clinical profile, paraclinic data and urodynamic investigation at the first consultation

Background: Spina bifida is the cause of 85% of neurogenic bladder in children. The objective was to describe the clinical profile at the first consultation. Methods: retrospective study on children followed for neurogenic bladder due to spina bifida between 2008 and 2018. Results: 36 children included. Average age at first consultation: 6 years. 47% had urinary infections. Renal failure in 73%. Vesico-ureteral reflux in 31%. Renal scars in 57%. Urodynamics: detrusor overactivity in 89%, low compliance in 56%, small capacity in 85%. Sphincter dyssynergia in 77%. Conclusion: high rate of uro-nephrological complications; need for a national reference protocol.Downloads
