Pediatric Injuries in the Emergency Department of the OWENDO University Hospital Center

Objective: To establish the epidemiological and prognostic profile of traumatic accidents occurring at home in the emergency department at CHU of Owendo, Gabon from 1 January 2019 to 30 June 2020. Patients and method: prospective and descriptive study over six months. Results: 180 children included, average age 6.3 ± 2 years with male predominance. Patients younger than 5 years were the most affected (56.02%). In 63.75% of cases the accident occurred in the absence of an adult. The fall is the main accidental mechanism (69.44%). Traumatic lesions concerned members in 60% of cases. Long bone fractures were the most common lesion (36.11%). Mortality of 1.6%. Conclusion: Pediatric household trauma is poorly studied in African countries and is responsible for significant morbidity and mortality.Downloads
