Abstract

Acute Promyelocytic leukemia is a rare myeloblastic leukemia characterized by the proliferation of malignant promyelocytes. We report a case of APL in a 12 year old boy. Blood count showed hyperleukocytosis, anemia and thrombopenia. Blood and bone marrow smears revealed many blastic cells with bilobed or reniform nucleus. The child died with cerebral haemorrhage due to DIVC. This observation reveals the gravity of this leukemia and the importance of an early diagnosis even in case of atypical morphology.
